BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav on Monday led the ‘Akrosh Mahila Padayatra’ rally here, held by the ruling BJP in protest against the defeat of the women’s quota bill in the Lok Sabha. Addressing the rally, Mr. Yadav held Congress responsible for the defeat of the bill in the LS, saying that women will never forget nor forgive the betrayal of their cause by the Congress by defeating the bill in the LS. He particularly took potshots at AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi for her party’s opposition to the bill, saying that she claims to champion the causes of women by being a woman and know how to fight for the cause of the women. How did she help the cause of women by opposing the women’s quota bill in the LS, Mr. Yadav questioned. The chief minister said that late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had done injustice to the Muslim women by ensuring passage of the triple talaq bill in the parliament and accused Congress of anti-women. Mr. Yadav announced that BJP would take the matter to the public by holding such rallies in district headquarters, block headquarters and panchayats. State BJP president Hemant Khandelwal and senior women leaders of the party also spoke on the occasion. Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday led the BJP ‘Jan Akrosh’ women conference at Raipur in Chhattisgarh to highlight the opposition to the women quota bill by the Opposition parties. He said that his government has launched several women welfare programmes for financial and social empowerment of women in the state. He accused the Congress of snatching away rights of the women by defeating the women quota bill in the lS.
