VIJAYAWADA: Leaders of the State Electricity Employees Forum on Friday submitted a representation to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu seeking extension of the retirement age to 62 years for electricity department employees on a par with other state government staff. The delegation, led by forum state president G. Ramakrishnudu, met the Chief Minister at the party office in Mangalagiri and urged the government to issue orders extending the enhanced retirement age to power sector employees. They said electricity employees fall under Schedule 9 and 10 categories and should be treated on an equal footing with other government employees. The forum recalled that when the retirement age was raised from 58 to 60 years in 2017, the benefit was extended to both government employees and Schedule 9 and 10 staff, including those in the power sector. However, they alleged that the previous government, while increasing the age from 60 to 62 years, limited the benefit to government employees alone. The leaders said the present government had constituted a Group of Ministers to examine the issue and submit a report on extending the revised retirement age to all eligible categories. However, they expressed concern that electricity department employees had been left out of the exercise.Forum general secretary S. Koteswara Rao and vice-president M. Satyanandam said the power sector played a vital role in the state’s development and excluding its employees from the retirement age extension was unjustified. They urged the Chief Minister to remove the anomaly and ensure parity for electricity employees.
