Youth Climbs Tower in Adoni Seeking Wife’s Return

KURNOOL: High drama unfolded in Adoni town of Kurnool district on Saturday after a youth climbed a cell tower demanding that his wife return to live with him.Police identified him as Surendra, a native of Nemmakallu village in Chippagiri mandal. They said he resorted to the extreme step following a domestic dispute. His wife had reportedly gone to her parental home some time ago, and he insisted that she return immediately. To press his demand, Surendra climbed a radio station tower and threatened to end his life if his wife was not sent back. Locals who noticed the incident gathered at the spot, leading to tension in the area. On receiving information, Chippagiri mandal police reached the scene and launched rescue efforts. Officials established contact with the youth over the phone and counselled him patiently. “The situation was handled carefully. We spoke to him and convinced him to come down safely,” a police officer said. After prolonged persuasion, Surendra agreed and climbed down without harm. Police said further counselling would be provided to help resolve the family dispute amicably.
