Hyderabad: Newly-elected Rajya Sabha members from Telangana, Vem Narender Reddy and Abhishek Manu Singhvi of the Congress, took oath as members of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, G. Vivek and Danasari ‘Seethakka’ Anasuya, along with several Congress MPs and MLAs were present on the occasion.With this, the strength of Congress Rajya Sabha members from Telangana has increased to four out of seven, with the remaining three held by BRS. Speaking to mediapersons later, Narender Reddy expressed gratitude to the Congress high command and the Chief Minister for giving him the opportunity to serve Telangana in the Rajya Sabha. He said he would live up to the trust reposed in him by the party leadership and work sincerely and with commitment for the state’s development. Narender Reddy said he would raise issues concerning Telangana in the Upper House and strive to secure funds and projects for the state, adding that several proposals related to funds and projects were pending with the Centre and he would make all efforts to obtain approvals at the earliest. Narender Reddy said he would work for the welfare of all sections of society and fight for the resolution of Telangana’s issues in Parliament. Serving as advisor to the Chief Minister since the Congress government assumed office in December 2023, he noted that his role would now shift to functioning on a national platform. He said he would stay away from controversies and focus on contributing meaningfully to the state. Stating that he shared a friendly rapport with the Chief Minister, Narender Reddy said he was not aware of developments on social media. Emphasising his interest in learning new things, he remarked that while his approach to work had been different so far, it would evolve in his new role as a Member of Parliament. Recalling that he had served as an MLA between 2004 and 2009, Narender Reddy said he would now work through Parliament and raise his voice in the Rajya Sabha for resolving the issues of Telangana.
