Special Drive in Manyam District to Control Malaria

Visakhapatnam: Parvathipuram Manyam administration has launched a special drive to contain the spread of malaria in the district.Officials have identified 248 villages with a population of about 50,000 who are vulnerable to malaria. As a precautionary, the malaria department has started Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) from May 1, which will be continued up to June 15. Officials said June, July and August are the crucial months for spread of malaria in the district due to its geographical conditions. In addition to IRS, the department is conducting blood screening tests to identify persons with malaria and provide them treatment. District collector A. Shyam Prasad has instructed officials to prepare a meticulous plan to control malaria and ensure that no deaths occur due to this disease. The plan includes chlorination of drinking water sources, preparation of oil balls and taking other preventive measures to combat the situation. These include releasing Gambusia fish into water bodies to control mosquito larvae and use of drones to spray materials that check the spread of mosquitoes. The collector said Giri Chaitanyam, a digital vehicle, will be on the roads shortly to create awareness within the public about malaria and other issues.
