BHUBANESWAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha convened a crucial meeting of its state office-bearers on Sunday, focusing on organisational consolidation and electoral strategy ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections. The meeting, held at the party’s state headquarters in Bhubaneswar, brought together key leaders to deliberate on strengthening the party’s grassroots presence. The meeting was chaired by state president Manmohan Samal, with the presence of BJP’s Odisha in-charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar. Senior leaders, including general secretaries and vice-presidents, also attended the session, underlining its organisational significance. Party insiders described the meeting as part of the BJP’s ongoing internal review mechanism, aimed at assessing current activities and ensuring better coordination across different organisational tiers. However, a major focus of the discussions remained the formulation of a comprehensive blueprint for the forthcoming panchayat elections—seen as a key political battleground in the state. Leaders engaged in detailed deliberations on the prevailing political landscape in Odisha, evaluating both opportunities and challenges. Sources indicated that strategies to expand the party’s rural outreach, mobilise booth-level workers, and sharpen campaign messaging were high on the agenda. The meeting is also understood to have reviewed the performance of various state-level programmes and outreach initiatives undertaken in recent months. Speaking to the media, Manmohan Samal termed the meeting a “routine organisational exercise,” but acknowledged its broader significance. “Our office-bearers’ meeting is conducted regularly. State leaders and the in-charge participated, and discussions will continue till evening. We are reviewing multiple programmes and deliberating on various important topics,” he said. The deliberations, which continued till late evening, is said to have drafted some of the BJP’s grassroots strategy. With panchayat polls often serving as a litmus test for political strength in rural Odisha, the appears keen to fine-tune its organisational machinery and enhance its electoral preparedness across the state.
