Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) here on Friday arrested a person on charges of stealing a passenger’s bag containing gold and cash at Secunderabad railway station. The arrested has been identified as Mohammed Muzammil, a worker of a grocery store and resident of Borabanda. Silver ornaments worth Rs.30,000 were recovered from the possession of the arrested person. A transgender, Varthyavath Ammu alias Tharun of Amangal was absconding in the case. Both Muzamil and Tharun have been friends since 2024. As they developed habits of consuming alcohol, smoking cigarettes and indulging other bad vices, they decided to commit thefts of valuables in trains to earn easy money to meet expenses. Accordingly, on March 28 2026, both of them came to Secunderabad railway station with an intention to commit theft. They entered S3 coach of Godavari express on platform one and stole a passenger hand bag containing one gold necklace, silver ornaments and other imitation jewellery apart from cash. The theft happened when the passenger kept the bag beneath the seat. Based on a complaint, the police booked a case and arrested them while under suspicious circumstances at the Secunderabad station.
