Hyderabad:Union minister for coal and mines G. Kishan Reddy hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in promoting yoga as India’s priceless gift to global health, crediting him with securing UN recognition of June 21 as International Day of Yoga in 2014 with the support of more than 170 nations. He highlighted initiatives such as corruption‑free governance and Swachh Bharat, and urged continued awareness from schoolchildren to seniors.He took part in the 50‑day countdown for the 12th IDY at Kanha Shanti Vanam in Ranga Reddy district, an event organised by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under the ministry of Ayush.In his address, Reddy emphasised yoga’s role in fostering physical fitness, mental balance and discipline amid modern stresses from pollution, chemicals in food and digital lifestyles. He called for yoga to be integrated into every home, school, village and workplace across the state to position Hyderabad as a global yoga hub alongside its IT and pharmaceutical sectors.Praising Kanha Shanti Vanam as a model of sustainable living and meditation, Reddy thanked Ayush Minister Pratap Rao Jadhav for hosting the event. He said yoga, Ayurveda and cultural revival, including the Ram Mandir, would help realise a healthy, peaceful Viksit Bharat by 2047.
