GHMC Rolls Out Summer Heatwave Plan

HYDERABAD: With summer underway, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has put in place a preparedness and mitigation plan to safeguard public health.Field‑level measures include setting up chalivendrams (drinking water kiosks) at select locations and public shelters in high‑density pedestrian zones. Medical readiness has been strengthened through enhanced coordination with Urban Primary Health Centres and Basti Dawakhanas. Designated hospital beds have been identified for heat‑related illnesses, and a toll‑free helpline has been launched for emergencies and teleconsultations. Heatwave warnings based on IMD data are now displayed on digital boards at major traffic junctions, alongside multimedia campaigns on official social media platforms. To prioritise the welfare of outdoor workers, labourers and the urban poor, medical camps have been organised at construction sites, with ambulances kept on standby at major work locations. GHMC has advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid exposure during peak sun hours between 12 pm and 4 pm, and take special care of the elderly, children and vulnerable groups. Officials urged people to visit the nearest Basti Dawakhana if they experience dizziness or headaches and seek medical help promptly.
