GGH Doctors Honoured for Saving Markapuram Bus Crash Victims



Nellore: Doctors and staff of Government General Hospital Ongole were felicitated on Tuesday for successfully treating victims of the Markapuram bus accident, with no fatalities reported among those admitted.Prakasam district collector P. Rajababu honoured the medical team for their prompt and dedicated service.Addressing the media at the chamber of the GGH superintendent, district revenue officer B. Chinna Obulesu said 17 injured passengers were admitted after the March 26 accident, many of them with serious injuries. Doctors and hospital staff provided immediate treatment and round-the-clock care from the time they were brought to the casualty ward.He said the collector monitored the situation from the accident site, while the Joint Collector supervised treatment at the hospital. Owing to the coordinated efforts of specialists, surgeons and support staff, all patients recovered and were discharged.One critically injured patient, Srihari, who had been referred to Government General Hospital Guntur for advanced treatment, has also recovered and been discharged.Officials said emergency surgeries, including treatment for liver injuries and fractures, were conducted on the first day, preventing further complications. The government also extended financial assistance to the victims.They added that ministers, MLAs and MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy closely monitored treatment and interacted with hospital authorities.GGH superintendent Dr Manikya Rao said the successful handling of the emergency reflected the hospital’s capability and commitment. He noted that treatment of such scale could cost up to ₹50 lakh in private hospitals, but free and effective care was provided at GGH.He said the hospital remained prepared to respond swiftly to emergencies and disasters in the district. Senior health officials, administrators and medical teams were present.
