EC Can't Discriminate Among Political Parties: CEC

New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has responded to criticism and confusion surrounding the ongoing Statewide Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral rolls. He emphasized that the Election Commission (EC) is functioning transparently and inclusively at all levels, with full cooperation from voters, political parties, and booth-level officers (BLOs). Speaking at a press briefing, Kumar said, “The doors of the Election Commission are always open for everyone equally.” He highlighted that at the ground level, all stakeholders—including district presidents of political parties and BLOs nominated by them—are verifying documents, signing off, and even providing video testimonials to support the authenticity of the SIR process. Expressing concern, he pointed out that some verified documents and testimonials are “either not reaching state or national level leaders or are being deliberately ignored.” He criticized attempts to misrepresent the situation and spread confusion, calling it “a matter of serious concern.” Kumar reiterated that the credibility of the Election Commission and the voters of Bihar remains intact. “When more than seven crore voters of Bihar are standing with the Election Commission, no question mark can be raised on its credibility,” he asserted.
