Hyderabad: The Rangareddy district Fast‑Track Special Court on Monday sentenced Shadnagar Arun, an autorickshaw driver from Hanuman Nagar Colony, Rajendranagar, to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment for abducting and sexually assaulting a minor. The court also imposed a fine of ₹8,000 and directed payment of ₹3 lakh compensation to the victim.Police said that on February 12, 2019, Arun lured the victim with a false promise of marriage, took her to a temple, and performed a sham marriage. He then subjected her to repeated sexual assault despite knowing she was underage.Based on the victim’s complaint lodged the next day, Attapur police registered a case under the IPC and the Pocso Act, station house officer K. Nageshwar Rao said.OU student critical after suicide attemptHyderabad: A 20 year old engineering student suffered serious injuries after attempting to die suicide on the Osmania University campus, near the women’s technical hostel at around 9.15 am on Monday.The first year mining engineering student was rushed to Gandhi Hospital by police. “His condition is critical and he is undergoing treatment,” said Osmania University station house officer M. Mahesh.Police said this was the student’s third suicide attempt in six months, reportedly over a failed relationship. His family from Mahbubabad district has been informed and reached the city.Witnesses said panic spread among female students after they heard the student screaming and running out of the hostel. Three of his college mates, who risked their lives to rescue, him also suffered injuries. Doctors at Gandhi Hospital confirmed that the student was in the ICU and his condition was being continuously monitored.Boy drowns in Kushaiguda poolAn 11‑year‑old boy drowned in a swimming pool at a sports complex in Kushaiguda on Monday evening. The deceased, a Class VI student at ECIL, and resident of BN Reddy Nagar, Cherlapally, had gone to the pool at Sportivo Sports Arena when the incident occurred.According to initial information, he drowned under circumstances yet to be ascertained. Police arrested the accused, Khaja and Ajmad, in Bhongir and presented them before a court which remanded them to judicial custody.According to police, the complainant, Pasham Srinivas of Bhongir, had business dealings with Khaja, the main accused. They fell out subsequently, and Khaja, along with his driver Ajmad, attempted to attack Srinivas on Friday at around 4 pm while he was having food at a hotel near Radhika crossroads.The attempt failed, and the accused fled the spot, abandoning the knives they had brought with them. Police later recovered the weapons from the scene. Based on the investigation, Kushaiguda police traced and arrested Khaja and Ajmad in Bhongir on Sunday. Police said the accused developed acquaintance with the minor, exploited her trust under the pretext of marriage, with the abuse continuing for nearly two months when she was alone at home.Investigations revealed that on July 26, 2021, he took the victim to a park near the Musi River in Uppal, then to Chinthalkunta, Suryapet, and later transported her by train to Mahbubabad and his native village, where she was confined briefly before being brought back. After returning to Hyderabad, the victim approached her family, following which a complaint was lodged.Woman murdered in Chandanagar hotel, accused heldA 39‑year‑old woman was found robbed and murdered in a hotel room in Chandanagar, with police arresting a 47‑year‑old man, Mandala Kumar, in connection with the crime. Kumar had developed acquaintance with the victim, Narsamma of Indresham in Sangareddy district. On Saturday afternoon, he took her a hotel in Chandanagar, where he strangled her and stole her gold and silver ornaments along with her mobile phone.The incident came to light when hotel staff grew suspicious after the woman failed to come out of the room for a long time. On breaking open the door, they found her lying dead and alerted Chandanagar police. The body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem.Based on CCTV footage and technical evidence, police traced and arrested Kumar. Stolen property including gold ear studs, silver anklets, toe rings, and two mobile phones were recovered from his possession. Police said the case, initially suspected to be linked to an illicit relationship, was confirmed to be a murder for gain.Excavator operator dies in building collapseA 29‑year‑old excavator operator died after a portion of a building collapsed on the machine during demolition work at Vattinagulapally in Gandipet mandal on Monday. Gachibowli police registered a case against three persons for negligence.The victim, Sakir, a native of Rajasthan, had moved to Hyderabad two months ago and was staying with friends in Bheeramguda. Police said the incident occurred in the afternoon while he was operating the excavator at a house demolition site. The roof of the first floor suddenly collapsed onto the vehicle, trapping him inside.Sakir suffered severe chest compression and suffocation, though no visible external injuries were found. He was rushed to a private hospital in Nallagandla, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.Based on a complaint lodged by his friend Shokin, also a JCB operator, police registered a case. The complainant alleged that the JCB owner, contractor, and house owner had assigned the demolition work without ensuring proper safety measures, leading to the fatal accident.Police booked Kunsam Muthiah, Orsu Yugandar, and Balki Ram Chander Singh in connection with the incident. Investigation is underway to ascertain lapses in safety protocols and fix responsibility.
