Vice-President Hails AU’s Century Of Excellence

VISAKHAPATNAM: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday described Andhra University as a “melting pot of ideas and leadership” at its centenary celebrations in Visakhapatnam, while cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar urged students to cultivate patience, discipline and self-confidence. Addressing a large gathering at the Engineering Grounds, the Vice-President said it was a privilege to witness a historic milestone marking 100 years of excellence. He said the university had not only witnessed history but had actively contributed to nation-building and the country’s intellectual and cultural growth. Recalling the vision of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, he said education must nurture both intellect and character, a principle that remained relevant even today. The Vice-President also highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s growing prominence as an investment and innovation hub, pointing to Visakhapatnam as an emerging centre for data centres, IT and digital infrastructure. Referring to Amaravati as the permanent capital, he said it reflected the collective aspirations of the people. Stress on perseverance formed a key part of his address. He remarked that even Sachin Tendulkar had to wait to achieve his milestones, underlining that patience and resilience were essential for success. Speaking as guest of honour, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar echoed the message through his own journey. “Success never happens overnight. It takes time. Be patient and follow the right path,” he said. He added that self-confidence was the ultimate weapon in overcoming challenges. His remarks drew applause from students and faculty, reinforcing the celebrations’ message of discipline, determination and excellence. Several dignitaries attended the function, including Governor Syed Abdul Nazeer, former Vice-President Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu, Kambhampati Hari Babu and Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu.
