Stay Away From Drugs, Take to Sports: EAGLE Chief



VIJAYAWADA: Aake Ravikrishna, senior police officer and chief of the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE), called upon students to stay away from drugs and embrace sports while addressing participants at the SRR International Open Rapid FIDE Rating Chess Tournament–2026 held at Scotspine International School on Sunday.As chief guest, Ravikrishna addressed students, parents and organisers, highlighting the growing threat of narcotics and the need for collective vigilance. He said the Andhra Pradesh government had constituted EAGLE as a dedicated mechanism to safeguard the future of youth and build a drug-free society. He said the organisation aimed to protect nearly 70 lakh students in the state from falling prey to drugs, ganja and other narcotic substances. The officer warned that hostile forces were attempting to weaken society by pushing narcotics as part of narco-terrorism, and stressed the need to create awareness among students. Ravikrishna said EAGLE had launched a massive awareness campaign titled “Drugs Vaddu Bro” across the state and established EAGLE clubs in nearly 40,000 educational institutions. He urged students not only to stay away from drugs but also to protect their families, friends and society. Encouraging participation in sports, he said games such as chess improve concentration, strategic thinking, discipline and problem-solving skills. “Stay away from drugs, stay close to sports,” he said. He also appealed to the public to share information related to drugs or ganja with the EAGLE call centre by dialling 1972. Several dignitaries, including Andhra Chess Association chairman K.V.V. Sharma, president A. Suresh, secretary K. Jagadeesh, tournament director P. Renuka and educationists, attended the event.
