Two Inspectors Forced To Take VR After Busting of Honey Trap Gang in Anantapur



Anantapur: Police have busted a honey trap racket in Anantapur district involving large-scale extortion of financially well-off individuals.Following this, two inspectors from Three Town and Rapthadu police stations have been forced to take voluntary retirement (VR) over their alleged links with the gang. They are likely to be suspended after a detailed report.In addition, several constables, including ID party personnel, are expected to face suspension after videos of alleged phone calls surfaced on social media.The case came out in the open following reported differences within the gang members. Police sources said the gang targeted government officials, businessmen, retired employees and other financially well-off individuals over the past few months.The accused allegedly lured victims through social media and messaging apps, initiated conversations that turned intimate, and secretly recorded compromising content. The accused then threatened their victims with exposure and forced them to pay amounts ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.Investigators say the gang operated in an organised manner, with women allegedly involved in trapping targets and others handling communication, surveillance and money collection. Promissory notes have reportedly been taken from victims unable to pay the demanded amounts.Sources said a victim committed suicide after paying Rs 25 lakh when the accused wanted him to transfer his property.Anantapur Rural DSP has detained the alleged kingpin and has launched a search for other suspects. Cases have been registered and a detailed investigation is under way to identify more victims and trace financial transactions.Superintendent of police P. Jagadeesh is monitoring the investigation.Authorities have asked people to remain cautious while interacting with unknown persons online and report any suspicious activity.
