Hyderabad: With the festive season of Christmas, New Year and Sankranthi approaching, the North Zone Police have issued an advisory urging citizens to take precautionary measures to protect their homes and valuables while travelling to their native places.The police warned that houses left unattended during the holidays often become vulnerable to thefts and other property-related offences. Citizens have been advised to ensure that all doors and windows are properly locked before leaving and to inform their local police station about their departure and expected date of return to facilitate increased patrolling.Residents have also been asked to inform neighbours and local watch committees so they can keep a watch on vacant houses. The advisory recommends installing CCTV cameras, security alarms with motion sensors and avoiding visible signs of vacancy such as newspapers, garbage bags or milk packets outside homes.The police further suggested storing valuables, cash and jewellery in bank lockers, avoiding leaving spare keys in hidden places, and refraining from sharing travel plans or live locations on social media. Vehicle owners have been advised to park vehicles within their premises, ensure they are locked and use additional security devices wherever possible.The North Zone Police said that local police stations will maintain records of vacant houses and intensify day and night beat patrolling in residential areas. Citizens have been requested to immediately report any suspicious activity or unidentified persons by dialling 100 or contacting the nearest police station.Appealing for public cooperation, S. Rashmi Perumal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Zone, Hyderabad, emphasized that public vigilance and timely information can help ensure a peaceful and safe festive season. The police also extended greetings to citizens, wishing everyone a Happy and Secure Christmas, New Year and Sankranthi.
