Saharanpur: Four Sons of Former MLA Haji Iqbal Released on Bail
The four sons of former MLA Haji Iqbal have finally been released from jail after being granted bail by the Supreme Court. The brothers, Javed, Wajid, Afzal, and Ali Shah, had been in jail for a long time but were released on bail after the Supreme Court’s order. The supporters of the family gathered outside the district jail in Saharanpur on Monday evening, awaiting the release of the brothers.
The brothers had been in jail since November 2024, when their lawyer filed a petition in the Supreme Court. The petition alleged that despite being granted bail, the administration had been repeatedly filing new cases against them to keep them in jail. On August 13, the brothers were arrested again on charges under the SC-ST Act and other sections at Mirzapur police station. However, on August 22, the Supreme Court questioned the entire case and ordered their release.
Due to a two-day holiday, the court’s order was delayed, but on Monday, the court instructed the immediate release of the four brothers. Following the court’s order, the district jail administration released the brothers in the evening. A large number of supporters were present outside the jail gate during the release.
It is worth noting that Haji Iqbal’s brother, Mahmood, has been convicted in a case and his bail petition is still pending. However, the release of the four brothers has created a stir in the politics of Saharanpur. Haji Iqbal himself is still absconding and a video of him surfaced from Saudi Arabia, where he was seen discussing a notice with the inspector of Mirzapur. It remains to be seen whether Haji Iqbal will return or not.
