WARANGAL: In a bizarre incident, a woman allegedly murdered her 44-year-old husband by mixing a soft drink with pesticide at Bhavanikunta Thanda in Wardhannapet mandal of Warangal district.According to sub-inspector B. Chander, the deceased was identified as Jatoth Balaji (44), who was reportedly addicted to alcohol and frequently harassed his wife, Kanthi (40). On July 8, while the village was celebrating a local festival, Datudu Panduga, Balaji wanted to go out to drink alcohol. However, Kanthi stopped him, saying there was alcohol at home. She then went into the kitchen, mixed pesticide into a soft drink, and served it to Balaji along with alcohol. Shortly after consumption, he complained of a burning sensation in his throat, and his condition rapidly deteriorated. Family members and neighbours rushed him to a nearby hospital, from where he was shifted to MGM Hospital and later to a private facility. He succumbed to the poison while undergoing treatment on Tuesday night, July 16. Doctors, suspecting foul play, alerted the police. Meanwhile, Kanthi had fled the house on July 8 and was later found to have taken shelter at her brother-in-law Vankudoth Dasaru’s home. Police suspect Dasaru may have conspired in the murder. A murder case has been registered, and Kanthi has been taken into custody. A manhunt is underway to trace and apprehend Dasaru, who is currently absconding. Balaji is survived by a son and a daughter. He had recently performed his daughter’s wedding and also has a granddaughter.
