David Corenswet is ready to soar as the next Superman in James Gunn’s highly anticipated 2025 reboot, simply titled Superman. The film, set for release on July 11, 2025, marks the beginning of a new chapter in the DC Universe under the creative direction of Gunn and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran.
The 31-year-old stars alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. After an extensive casting process in mid-2023—including screen tests with other hopefuls like Tom Brittney and Emma Mackey—Corenswet was chosen to step into the role previously held by Henry Cavill. Filming began in early 2024, with production spanning locations like Norway, Georgia, and Ohio.

He Started Acting as a Child
Corenswet’s path in entertainment began early in his hometown of Philadelphia, where he developed a love for storytelling through live theater. As a child, he appeared in several local stage productions, including the Arden Theatre Company’s 2002 production of All My Sons, the Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival’s 2003 staging of Macbeth, the Walnut Street Theatre Company’s La Vie En Bleu (2003), and the People’s Light and Theatre Company’s 2004 production of The Forgiving Harvest.
His passion extended behind the camera as well. In 2011, he co-wrote and acted in the feature film Following Chase, directed by Greg Koorhan. He later co-created, produced, and starred in the sketch-comedy web series Moe & Jerryweather, which ran for two seasons.
He Comes From a Creative Family
Corenswet grew up surrounded by creativity. His father, John Corenswet, was a stage actor who later became a lawyer, while his mother is a freelance writer and editor. His maternal grandfather, Edward Packard, was also the creator of the Choose Your Own Adventure book concept and was the author of more than 50 books in the series.
He Recently Got Married and Became a Dad
In March 2023, Corenswet married actress Julia Best Warner. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in early 2024. While they keep their personal life largely private, Warner has supported Corenswet publicly throughout the Superman production, including attending red carpet events alongside him.
