Bo & Catherine Met on the Set of Beetlejuice
Catherine and Bo first met on the set of the 1988 film Beetlejuice, which became a Halloween cult classic. She played the character Delia Deetz, and Bo worked as a production designer.
“He talked to me all the time,” Catherine told People in a previous interview about Bo. “We’d hang out on the set, and we’d have some laughs. I thought, ‘He’s going to ask me out.’”

But he didn’t — not right away, at least, Catherine noted. She confessed feeling confused by the situation, and she eventually struck up a conversation with director Tim Burton about it.
“‘Bo Welch keeps talking to me every day but never asks me out,’” Catherine recalled asking Tim, to which he replied, “Let me see what I can do.”
After the filmmaker encouraged Bo to ask Catherine out. “Bo came up to me that day and said, ‘Our department’s going to a swap meet. You want to come?’” she said. The rest was history.
Catherine & Bo Got Married in 1992
In 1992, Catherine and Bo tied the knot after around four years of dating. They continued their careers in showbusiness, as Catherine went on to star in the Home Alone movies and countless other projects, while Bo worked as a production designer on movies such as Edward Scissorhands and Men in Black.
Although their long-standing relationship was a testament to their love, Catherine once acknowledged that she and Bo went “through some dangerous times in our marriage, and thank God we both just really wanted to work on it and stay married,” per People.
“I have friends who’ve been divorced, and one of them really wanted to work on it and the other didn’t,” the late Canadian-American actress explained. “And you just can’t win. You can’t do anything that way. But thank God we both wanted to, when we went through rough times. … And laughing. Respecting each other and talking, but laughing comes from that too. People always say communicate, right? Tell them how you’re feeling.’ We do a lot of it with jokes. We’ll make fun of each other instead of yelling at each other. Sarcasm helps!”
Catherine & Bo Share 2 Kids Together
Catherine and Bo welcomed two children together after marrying: Matthew in 1994 and Luke in 1997. Catherine is survived by her sons, who remain out of the public eye.
