Hyderabad: Civil supplies minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday urged senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao to stop a “daily campaign of falsehoods”, and said there was no truth in the BRS’ leader’s allegations on paddy procurement status.Sharing a comparative chart on paddy procurement during the Yasangi (Rabi) season, Uttam Kumar Reddy, in a post on X, said the government had procured 43.10 lakh metric tonnes (LMTs) of paddy in the ongoing season till Monday. This is significantly more compared to 29.88 LMTs procured during the same period in the previous Yasangi season, and 19.62 LMTs in 2022-23.The current figure shows a 44 per cent increase over last year and more than 120 per cent compared to two years ago, Uttam Kumar Reddy said. He said the Congress government had established more procurement centres and streamlined operations to benefit farmers directly. The government’s commitment to ensuring minimum support price, payment of a Rs.500 bonus per quintal for fine-quality paddy, and timely procurement had brought relief to paddy cultivators.Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana had a record-breaking performance in paddy production. In the Vanakalam (Kharif) season, 153.5 LMTs of paddy was produced from 66.7 lakh acres, while the ongoing Yasangi season saw paddy being grown in 55 lakh acres, yielding another 127 LMTs. “Telangana produced a total of 280 LMT of paddy in one agricultural year — a historic achievement not only in the state’s history but also across the country. This rare and extraordinary feat in India’s agricultural landscape was achieved despite the collapse of the Kaleshwaram project,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
