Uttam Sets Deadlines for Major Irrigation Projects

Hyderabad: Irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday announced a road map to fast-track work on irrigation projects in undivided Mahbubnagar district, to ensure their completion as per a timeline. He said the massive Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme (PRLIS) would be completed by December 2027, ending years of delay and injustice to farmers under the previous BRS regime. He was speaking after an extensive aerial and on-ground inspection of major irrigation sites across Nagarkurnool and Wanaparthy districts, accompanied by excise minister Jupally Krishna Rao.The tour began at Narlapur in Kollapur mandal, where the team inspected the Stage-I pumping station and Narlapur reservoir, with a capacity of 6.4 tmc ft — almost six and a half times the holding capacity of the Hussainsagar. They reviewed progress of work on the canal between Narlapur and Yedula, part of PRLIS Package-3.They held a detailed review of Package-3, an important link that was ignored by the previous BRS regime. The chief engineer concerned and the construction agency have been given a six-month deadline to complete Package-3.At Yedula in Revally mandal of Wanaparthy district, the ministers inspect the Yedula reservoir and Stage-II pumping station at Teegalapally in Kodair mandal. This segment features 10 pumps of 145 MW capacity each, with a discharge capacity of 23,000 cusecs, feeding a 6.5-tmc ft reservoir. Notably, it includes India’s largest underground cavern — 30 metres wide, 415 metres long, and 90 metres deep — located 160 metres below the surface.Later, the delegation proceeded to the Stage-III pumping station and Vattem reservoir in Vattem village of Bijinepally mandal. The site also features 10 pumps of 145 MW capacity each and identical discharge capacity. He instructed irrigation officials to prepare a comprehensive list of pending land acquisition cases and vendor-related packages to resolve all bottlenecks in the implementation of these schemes.
