Vijayawada: A ragging incident led to the suspension of a woman government welfare hostel officer M Deepika and dismissal of an outsourcing employee S Sanjeswara Rao.They “failed to control” six students subjecting two junior intermediate students to ‘ragging’ in the form of severe beating and electric shocks at BC College Boys Hostel at Dachepalli in Palnadu district recently. The gang of six was suspectedly under the influence of ganja. The incident occurred on April 7.Among the six students, one was studying in Navodaya degree private college and said to be ‘in love’ with a first-Inter student of the BiPC group in the government junior college at Dachepalli. Another first-year student in the same group at the college was also in love with the girl for some time.Nursing a grudge, the degree college student called the junior student and his friend who is differently abled to the government BC College boys Hostel at Dachepalli, where he and the five others were staying. The six picked up an argument on the issue of love affair and beat up the two juniors severely. The gang allegedly gave electric shocks to the two, took a video shoot of the entire incident, and posted it on social media platforms.The two minor boys belonged to the SC community. Of the six students who were booked under the SC and ST Act, four belonged to the ST communities and two to non-SC and ST communities.The issue came to surface on August 9. The police called up the main victim boy and his parents, recorded a complaint from them and booked a case under the provisions of SC and ST (Atrocities Prevention) Act, 1989. An inquiry is on.Gurajala DSP B Jagdish said, “The minor boy who was in love with the same girl along with the differently abled boy were called in and beaten up. They were also subjected to electric shock to intimidate them.”As the video grab of the gang beating up the two minor students went viral on social media, Palnadu collector Arun Babu directed Palnadu BC welfare officer Srinivasulu to visit the hostel and start an inquiry.
