Chennai: Founder president of the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) Vijay threw his weight behind the striking conservancy workers of Chennai Corporation, who have been protesting against the outsourcing of their work to private companies, and said that it was inhuman to force the people who keep the city clean to fight on their streets for their livelihood.In his message on Monday, Vijay said that when he was thinking about meeting the protesting conservancy workers, they themselves expressed a desire to call on him and he agreed to meet them at his office since his going out to their agitation venue could cause traffic congestions inconveniencing the common public.The beleaguered workers poured their hearts out during the meeting at the TVK headquarters in Chennai and their grievances revealed the anti-democratic attitude of the State government that had refused to listen to their demands and even honour the promises on regularizing their services when the DMK was in the opposition, Vijay said.
