TMC MP Slams Shah For Attacking Didi

Kolkata: Trinamul Congress scion Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday punctured union home minister Amit Shah’s charges of corruption, infiltration and the Election Commission’s special intensive revision (SIR) against the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal. Rejecting Mr Shah’s complaint of corruption, the Diamond Harbour TMC MP alleged, “They talk about investigating corruption but we have seen examples of BJP’s so-called fight against corruption, from Suvendu Adhikari here to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to Narayan Rane in Maharashtra. There are several such examples over the last 10–12 years.” On infiltration, he claimed, “Those who speak about border security should answer this: their own representative, BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar, had earlier stated that there will be no border with Bangladesh if BJP comes to power and that BJP will remove the border. Did Mr Shah issue a showcause notice to Mr Sarkar? Either Mr Sarkar or Mr Shah is right.” The TMC national general secretary then wondered, “If borders are secured and guarded by BSF under the union home ministry, how are people entering the country?” before retaliating to Mr Shah over the SIR. He pointed out, “Their leaders themselves are spreading fear. Who spoke about deletion of Matuas’ names, making them afraid? Why is BJP not taking disciplinary action against its leaders? It is Asim Sarkar and Shantanu Thakur. BJP leaders said one crore names would be struck off even before the SIR started. Some said one lakh Matua names could be deleted. If SIR has to be implemented, Mr Shah alone must be blamed for this.” Mr Banerjee also argued if the CM was responsible for the deaths of 25 people at Wow Momo warehouse fire in Anandapur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mr Shah should be held responsible for the deaths of over 140 people in the state due to the SIR. Countering Mr Shah’s claims about Wow Momo owner Sagar Daryani’s participation in Ms Banerjee’s foreign tour, the young TMC leader sought him to explain Mr Modi’s links with fugitive industrialists Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi who had accompanied the PM overseas earlier.
