Tirupati to Be Developed As Megacity With Modern Civic Amenities: Minister

Tirupati: Tirupati will be developed as megacity with modern civic infrastructure and improved facilities. This was announced by Dr. Ponguru Narayana, the municipal administration and urban development minister, here on Monday. Speaking to reporters, Narayana said the coalition government was giving top priority to strengthen urban centres across the state, despite financial constraints. Amenities are being provided in all 123 municipalities, and under the AMRUT scheme, every household will receive safe drinking water within three years. The minister said that special attention is being given to resolve pending TDR bonds in Visakhapatnam, Guntur and Tirupati. He appealed to residents of Scavengers Colony in Tirupati to cooperate in the construction of modern apartments planned for them. The cabinet had approved the land regularisation scheme (LRS), which would provide relief to thousands of property owners. “All future building activity must strictly adhere to regulations,” he stressed.Narayana criticised the previous YSR Congress government of neglecting TUDA Towers and failing to prioritise public needs. He alleged that the state had been left burdened with ₹10 lakh crore debt and 85 lakh tonnes of garbage, while central schemes were blocked by not providing matching grants. He also accused the YSRC of driving away industrialists.“Under the direction of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, 73 lakh tonnes of garbage had already been cleared, and six waste-to-energy plants are being set up. By October 2, the remaining waste will also be cleared,” he said, adding, new industries are being encouraged to attract investment and generate employment opportunities.Earlier, the minister held a review meeting with TUDA and municipal officials at the TUDA office and gave instructions to prioritise sanitation, construction of CC roads and drainage and facilities for municipal workers while expediting development works. He asked TUDA to increase revenue by developing new layouts and townships as well as introduce road cleaning practices by deploying sweeping machines.Narayana further told officials to avoid misleading reports and focus on presenting facts and resolving public issues through proper planning. TUDA chairman Divakar Reddy, vice-chairman and joint collector Shubham Bansal, municipal commissioner N. Mourya and other officials were present.
