Hyderabad: Taking a serious note of deaths due to consumption of adulterated toddy, Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has asked the Principal Secretary to Government, Revenue (Prohibition and Excise) department to submit a comprehensive report related to the incident by 11 am on August 20. It asked the Principal Secretary to submit factual verification of the incident, including number of deaths and persons affected as reported in the complaint and news articles published in various newspapers. The Commission wanted details of the action, if any, taken by the Revenue (Prohibition and Excise) department, in the incident, including any departmental enquiry, arrests made, toddy shops sealed, or disciplinary action initiated against erring officials. It wanted to know the preventive mechanisms in place across the State to regulate toddy tapping and distribution, and to monitor and curb adulteration of toddy to avoid recurrence of such incidents, including compensation to the victims provided, if any.
