Hyderabad:The Telangana High Court took up the issue of lift-related accidents that have claimed lives in recent weeks, and directed the state government to file counters regarding the laws and rules that govern the installation and maintenance of lifts in commercial and residential buildings.On March 14, immediately after death of four-year-old boy in a lift accident at Shantinagar, the High Court had received a letter which highlighted that the accidents were the result result of malfunctioning of lifts and the lack of responsibility in maintaining them. The sender requested the court to direct the government to expeditiously enact a legislation, rules and guidelines on the safety of lifts.The court took cognisance of the letter and issued directions to the Chief Secretary, principal secretary of the municipal administration, and the law secretary to explain the government’s stand and why the letter should not be taken up as a PIL.
