'Sudarshan Chakra' air defence system will need huge tri-services efforts: CDS Chauhan

India to Develop Indigenous Air Defence System

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced a project to develop an indigenous air defence system aimed at protecting the country’s vital military and civilian installations. This move comes in response to growing security concerns stemming from neighbouring countries, including Pakistan and China.

The Chief of Defence Staff has highlighted the complexity of the project, stating that it will require a significant multi-domain integration of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. This will involve networking various systems across ground, air, maritime, undersea, and space domains, as well as integrating sensors to provide a comprehensive picture of the environment.

According to the Chief of Defence Staff, a substantial effort will be required from the three services to integrate the various systems for the Sudarshan Chakra project. This will involve a massive amount of integration work and the networking of multiple fields to provide a true and accurate picture of the situation.
