Hyderabad:M. Madhu, 22, suffered severe injuries to his throat and hands after his motorcycle after he rode into sharp nylon string stretching across the road near a mall in Yacharam mandal. In another case, G. Veeraiah, 33, sustained deep throat injuries after running into a strand of Chinese Manja while crossing the Amberpet flyover. Both victims are undergoing treatment at private hospitals, police said.They are among the six motorcyclists, including a police constable and a student, who suffered serious neck injuries in separate incidents reported across the city over 13 days.On December 30, 29-year-old T. Ashok was slashed by the glass-coated thread while riding past a theatre in Saidabad. He was found bleeding profusely by traffic constable M. Kranthi, who rushed him to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.On December 29, the deadly string nearly proved fatal for food delivery executive Md. Jameel at Shamsheergunj. The abrasive thread wrapped around his neck, causing a deep gash. He was shifted to a private hospital, where doctors had to administer 22 sutures.On December 26, Jashwanth Reddy, a BTech student, suffered severe neck injuries under the Keesara police station limits while riding his bike. He continues to remain under medical observation at a private hospital.On December 25, Shivraj, attached to the Langer Houz traffic police station, was injured when the synthetic string entangled his neck while he was commuting on the Tilak Nagar-Narayanguda flyover.Despite a standing ban on the sale and use of synthetic manja due to its life-threatening risk to humans and birds, its use continues unabated ahead of the Sankranti festival. Police have cautioned commuters, especially two-wheeler riders, to remain extremely vigilant while using flyovers and open stretches of roads.
