SIT to Submit Status Report on MP Minister’s Controversial Remarks to SC on Monday

Bhopal: The three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the controversial remarks of Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah against retired Army officer Col. Sofya Qureshi is set to submit its status report to the Supreme Court on Monday. The apex court will hear the matter the same day, sources said. The SIT, headed by Inspector General of Police Pramod Verma, also includes DIG Kalyan Chakravarty and SP Vahini Singh. It was constituted after the Supreme Court ordered an independent probe into the incident, overruling a petition by Shah who had challenged a Madhya Pradesh High Court directive for a police FIR.The controversy dates back to May 11, when Shah, addressing a function in a Mhow village (Indore district) to mark the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, allegedly described Col. Qureshi as the “sister of terrorists.” His comments triggered widespread outrage and embarrassment for the BJP at the national level.Since launching its probe on May 20, the SIT has examined more than 125 people, including event organisers, university officials, journalists, and BJP leaders present at the function. Investigators have also obtained video footage of the minister’s speech and questioned Shah in a half-hour session.Officials indicated the SIT’s findings could prove decisive in determining Shah’s political future.
