Hyderabad:Singareni will launch massive afforestation drive from June 1, planting 40 lakh saplings across 675 hectares within SCCL limits. Under the ‘Neeti Bindhu and Jala Sindhu’ initiative, Singareni has completed digging 48 new water tanks and desilted 25 old water bodies.With the onset of the monsoon season, Singareni CMD N. Balram has urged staff to prepare for the Vanamahotsavam programme across all SCCL areas. To improve groundwater levels, Singareni plans to dig 62 mini water tanks, of which 48 are already completed. The target for desilting old water bodies is 45, with 25 completed so far.Once all work is finished, Singareni will have rejuvenated 107 water bodies within its limits. Balram instructed officials to ensure civil works enable proper water inflow and maximise retention in the newly built tanks during the rainy season.During a review meeting, the CMD emphasised the need for strict measures to maintain the structural integrity of embankments. He also stated that he will personally inspect the progress of all 107 water bodies in the coming days.The meeting was attended by L.V. Suryanarayana, director (operations); K. Venkateshwarlu, director (personnel & projects); S.D.M. Subhani, executive director (coal movement); Mohan Parigein, advisor (forestry); A. Manohar, GM (CPP); Saidulu, GM (environment & forestry) and other senior officials from headquarters and general managers from all areas.
