Hyderabad: Singareni CMD N. Balram Sets World Record by Creating 35 Mini Forests in Coal Belt On Tuesday, Balram planted 225 saplings near the GK Open Cast Mine in Kothagudem, continuing a green mission he began on World Environment Day in 2019. What started as a two-acre plantation effort has now spread to 56 locations across Singareni’s coal belt, transforming barren stretches into green habitats that attract birds and wildlife.Balram personally tends to the saplings he plants, ensuring a 90 per cent survival rate through regular monitoring and geo-tagging. His work is not limited to symbolic gestures — it reflects sustained commitment and hands-on environmental stewardship. During his felicitation, speakers praised not only the plantation initiative but also projects like “Neeti Binduvu–Jalasindhuvu,” which saw the construction of 62 tanks to recharge groundwater. Balram’s record-setting streak includes planting 1,251 saplings on a single stretch at Ramagundam-3 Opencast Mine in September 2019 and 1,237 saplings at the Srirampur Opencast Mine, for which he was recognised by the High Range Book of World Records. His green imprint spans SCCL and beyond: 1,006 saplings near Geeta Mandir, Srirampur; 600 near Bhupalpally’s old nursery; 626 opposite Thousand Quarters; and 440 near Manuguru Opencast Mine. He planted 416 saplings in his native Tirumalagiri village and extended his green mission to Adilabad’s Durg Colony, a park in New Delhi, Naini coal block in Odisha and even in Australia.
