Actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra have denied allegations of cheating a Mumbai-based businessman of Rs 60.48 crore. The complaint, filed by Deepak Kothari, director of Lotus Capital Financial Services Ltd., claims the fraud took place between 2015 and 2023. According to the complaint, Kothari transferred Rs 31.95 crore in April 2015 under a share subscription agreement, and another Rs 28.53 crore in September 2015 under a supplementary agreement. The funds were allegedly credited to Best Deal TV’s accounts. Claiming that repeated attempts to recover the money had failed, Kothari accused the couple of “dishonestly using” it for personal benefit. A statement issued by the couple’s lawyer, Advocate Prashant Patil, said: “My clients deny all allegations, which are purely civil in nature and were adjudicated by the NCLT Mumbai on 04/10/2024. This is an old transaction wherein the company went into financial distress and eventually got entangled in a long legal battle.” The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is investigating the financial transactions, agreements, and alleged misappropriation of funds. Neither Shilpa Shetty nor Kundra were available for comment.
