School moves HC on rival in neighbourhood

Justice K. Lakshman of the Telangana High Court took on file a writ plea challenging the permission granted to Delhi World School to establish a new school within 200 metres of an existing private school in Jogulamba Gadwal district. The judge was dealing with a writ plea filed by SR Vidhyanikathan International School, represented by its director, contending that the action of the education authorities in granting approval to Delhi World School was contrary to the prohibition contained in the government order dated January 1, 1994, which restricted the establishment of new schools within a specified proximity of existing institutions. The petitioner contended that the permission was granted without due notice or opportunity of hearing, amounting to a violation of the principles of natural justice. It was the case of the petitioner that the establishment of a new school in such close proximity would affect their enrolments and disrupt the functioning of their institution, which has been operating for several years in the locality. The petitioner sought a declaration that the permission granted to Delhi World School was illegal and arbitrary, and prayed for a direction restraining the school from enrolling students for the academic year 2025-26. The matter will be heard after the summer vacation.
