The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad, arrested over alleged offensive online posts related to Operation Sindoor. While upholding the right to freedom of expression, the court slammed Mahmudabad’s choice of words, describing them as “dog whistling” intended to humiliate and discomfort others.Refusing to stay the ongoing investigation, the SC directed the Haryana DGP to form a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by an officer of IG rank, to probe the case.Additionally, the court has restrained Mahmudabad from posting any further commentary online regarding the conflict.Further details are awaited.
