Despite aggressive promotions by Samantha Ruth Prabhu, her maiden production Subham has opened to a lukewarm response at the box office. The horror-comedy, which stars newcomers and features Samantha in a brief cameo, managed to collect just ₹2.5 crore on its opening day in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.“It needs to pick up drastically to sustain,” said a leading distributor. “Samantha impressed in a whacky role as a tantrik, but while the concept is promising, poor execution is hurting its chances.”This marks Samantha’s return to the big screen following her acclaimed web series appearances in The Family Man 2 and Citadel: Honey and Bunny. However, the Telugu audience hasn’t turned out in large numbers for her theatrical comeback.“The film has a few fun moments and explores the quirky obsession women have with daily soaps, but it lacks the depth to keep viewers engaged,” the distributor added.Meanwhile, actor Nani extended his support, writing on X, “Wishing Samantha Ruth Prabhu a huge success with Subham. Loved the teaser and the idea.” With an estimated ₹4 crore invested in the project, Samantha is hoping that such goodwill—and stronger word-of-mouth—will help turn things around at the box office.
