Nalgonda: A viral video on social media this week sparked a debate after a woman was forced off a TGSRTC bus for carrying toddy-filled bottles. The incident took place on the Suryapet-Nalgonda Express at Nakrekal.The passenger, a resident of Madharam in Shaligowraram mandal, boarded the bus at the Indira Gandhi bus station in Nakrekal carrying a bag that contained two bottles of toddy. When the conductor detected the smell, he inspected her belongings, discovered the bottles, and instructed her to disembark on the bypass road outside town. Because she had not yet purchased a ticket, she was not formally recorded as a passenger.Angered by the order, the woman obstructed the bus from leaving by standing in front of it and demanded to know who had issued the directive barring toddy on TGSRTC vehicles. She explained that the toddy was intended for a birthday celebration in Kattangur and that drinking it was a family tradition. After a five-minute standoff, highway patrol officers intervened and persuaded her to allow the bus to continue its journey.Social media users were divided over the issue. Some users supported the woman’s challenge to the bus rules and called on TGSRTC managing director S. Sajjanar to clarify whether travellers may carry toddy on board. Others argued that the conductor acted appropriately under company regulations.Clarifying the policy, Nalgonda regional manager Jhan Reddy said that, per TGSRTC rules, passengers are not permitted to transport toddy on board its buses. He confirmed that the conductor’s actions complied with these regulations.
