Rains Continue To Batter Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Light to moderate rainfall continued across Hyderabad on Thursday, beginning in the morning and increasing by evening in several parts of the city. Areas including Abids, Nampally, and Himayatnagar experienced steady rain, while moderate showers were also reported from Gachibowli, Madhapur, and Hayathnagar. Light drizzles were observed in a few other locations.Water levels in the twin reservoirs of Osmansagar and Himayatsagar have shown a slight rise. As of 5 pm, water at Osmansagar stood at 1,782.80 feet with 2.474 tmc ft, against its full tank level (FTL) of 1,790 feet and 3.9 tmc ft, receiving inflows of 100 cusecs. The water level at Himayatsagar reached 1,761.05 feet with 2.447 tmc ft of water, below its FTL of 1763.5 feet and 2.970 tmc ft, and saw inflows of 300 cusecs. At 1 pm, the water level in Hussainsagar was recorded at 513.18 metres, close to its FTL of 513.41 metres. The lake was receiving inflows of 1,728 cusecs, with an outflow of 774 cusecs. GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan has assured full support to HYDRAA for managing monsoon-related emergencies in Hyderabad. At a coordination meeting held on Thursday evening, he stated that while HYDRAA holds primary responsibility for disaster management, GHMC’s engineering teams will assist with nala desilting, sump maintenance, and sharing of lake water-level data for timely alerts in low-lying areas. HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath said their teams would handle maintenance of 11 underpasses, clean rainwater drains on flyovers, desilt catch pits, and conduct nala safety audits, requesting GHMC’s help in setting up ward-wise silt transport points. According to the IMD forecast, the city is expected to experience a generally cloudy sky on Friday, with light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph. Hazy conditions are likely to prevail during the morning hours, while surface winds are expected to be westerly, with speeds ranging between 8–12 kmph.
