Raichur Youth Join Trek as City for Youth Initiative Kicks Off

Raichur’s youth joined a trek up Gubber Betta as part of a new initiative encouraging civic involvement and talent development.A group of spirited youngsters from Raichur climbed Gubber Betta early Sunday morning, marking the launch of a new civic engagement initiative titled “City for Youth–Youth for City.” The three-month programme, spearheaded by the Raichur City Municipal Corporation in collaboration with the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, aims to encourage young people to actively participate in the development of their city. It includes ten events focusing on civic awareness, sports, and talent development, and will run through October. Minister for Minor Irrigation and Science & Technology, N S Boseraju, flagged off the initiative at the Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium. Dressed in a tracksuit, he joined the youth for a morning walk. “If officials plan with the public in mind, such meaningful programmes are possible. The Municipal Commissioner Zubin Mohapatra has taken a commendable step,” he said. Commissioner Zubin Mohapatra, the driving force behind the programme, emphasized the potential of Raichur’s youth. “They are full of energy. What they need is direction and motivation. This initiative is designed to channel that energy into building a better city,” he said. The launch event drew enthusiastic participation from young citizens and community leaders. Many trekked up Gabberu Hill, took group photos, and shared their excitement about the programme. A detailed calendar of upcoming activities—including sports meets, talent shows, and interactive sessions with civic officials—was also released. As a symbolic gesture, kitchen kits were handed over to ten pourakarmikas (sanitation workers) in recognition of their dedicated service. Also present at the event were acting City Corporation president J. Sajid Sameer, Veeresh Nayak from the Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, and several elected representatives.
