Police Detain One in Fertility Scam for Luring Women for Surrogacy

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police detained another person in connection with the Universal Fertility Centre irregularities case following the questioning of key accused A. Namratha and her associates Dhanasri Santoshi and Kalyani.Police, based on leads obtained from questioning the key accused, detained Krishna who was stated to have lured women from different rural areas for surrogacy. Krishna acted as a middleman between Namratha and the women who were then shifted to the Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.It was reported that police teams investigating the case are likely to visit Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam as part of the probe, and more arrests were likely based on the leads they gathered. The investigators also focused on the victims who were also cheated by Namratha.Sources said the investigation officer had obtained reports that Narmatha made a strong network in different states including Karnataka and Tami Nadu to get more patient couples for IVF treatment and surrogacy. Sources said the officers also found that Namratha had reportedly created fake and forged birth certificates to give couples at the time of handing over of the babies.
