Pawan to Lay Stone For Godavari Water Grid project on Dec 20

KAKINADA: Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan would set stone for construction of a water grid project near NH-216 in Peravali village of East Godavari district, in Nidadavole constituency, on December 20.Though there existed a proposal for the water project since 2021, the Central government sanctioned the project to Andhra Pradesh in early October-2025 under the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme with an outlay of `3,050 crore including `1,650 crore for erstwhile East Godavari and `1,400 crore for erstwhile West Godavari district. Under the project, the water would be purified with advanced technology. Drinking water would be supplied to 67.82 lakh people of 66 mandals in 24 constituencies across five districts – Kakinada, Eluru, Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema, and the East and West Godavari districts. The project is seen as a permanent solution for the people’s drinking water problems in these districts. Tourism minister Kandula Durgesh said the project would utilize advanced technology to purify Godavari river water from the Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage near Dowleswaram, Bobbarlanka and Vemagiri. This would benefit 30.64 lakh people across 32 mandals in 11 constituencies of the Konaseema, Kakinada and East Godavari districts; and 28.18 lakh people, covering 34 mandals in 12 constituencies. He said that the project would be completed in two phases in two years. He noted that the alliance government had promised in its election manifesto that they would complete the project on time to put an end to the health problems faced by the people of the Godavari Delta region due to ground water salinization and contamination. The minister said state-of-the art water treatment plants would be constructed at Dowleswaram. Water would be purified to international standards through gravity and supplied to every household through pipelines. Ironically, he said, despite the mighty Godavari river flowing through the region for so many years, the people of Godavari have been plagued by drinking water problems. Now, with the cooperation of the central government and at the initiative of the alliance government, water would reach them soon. He said Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan would visit the Nidadavole constituency for the first time after formation of the coalition government.
