Visakhapatnam, July 23: Jana Sena chief and actor Pawan Kalyan struck an emotional chord with fans during promotional events for his upcoming film Hari Hara Veera Mallu in Visakhapatnam, describing the coastal city as one that is “etched in my heart.”The star-turned-politician, who currently serves as Andhra Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, took a nostalgic journey through his acting career while addressing the audience, sharing how he evolved from a shy newcomer into the “Powerstar” of Telugu cinema.Reflecting on his deep connection with North Andhra, Pawan recalled that his acting journey began in Visakhapatnam under the guidance of his first acting mentor, Satyanand. “Once my brother Chiranjeevi handed me over to my first guru, Satyanand. I didn’t know how to act—I was too shy to even step out of my home. But Satyanand taught me bravery before acting. He made me believe in myself,” he shared. He also recounted a tense incident from two years ago at the same hotel where he was now staying for the current promotional tour. “Back then, police officials stopped me from stepping out of my car, even kicking the doors with their shoes. It was a crucial time, but Visakhapatnam stood by me,” he said, thanking the city for its unwavering support during his political struggles.Breaking from his official stature, Pawan Kalyan said, “Today I’m not speaking as the Deputy CM, but as your Powerstar.”He opened up about the challenging production journey of Hari Hara Veera Mallu, which faced multiple hurdles—including his 2019 election loss, two Covid-19 waves, political turbulence, and multiple directorial changes. “Thirty per cent of the film was directed by Krish, but due to unforeseen reasons, Jyoti stepped in and completed it in a short span,” he explained.Pawan also revealed his discomfort with film promotions. “In my early days, the media said I wasn’t hero material. So, I adapted to staying away from promotions. Even now, I feel uneasy asking people to vote for me or watch my films. I know how to give, not ask.” He credited the film’s heroine, Nidhi, for taking the lead in promotional activities. He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for sanctioning a hike in ticket prices and thanked NDA leader Nara Lokesh for extending wishes on social media for the film’s success.“Cinema should entertain but also educate,” he said, adding, “I believe in Sanatana Dharma—not as a religion that opposes others, but as something that unites. I’m not against any ruler, but when something goes wrong, it must be addressed. Through my films, I want fans to think wisely.”
