Patients Lament Over ESI Centres’ Deplorable Conditions

Hyderabad: Healthcare centres under the ESI (Employees’ State Insurance) scheme are poorly maintained, and doctors often arrive late, causing concern among patients. The ESI hospitals at Sanathnagar and Nacharam have now become veritable nightmares for those admitted, due to poor maintenance and unsanitary, germ-ridden conditions.Patients have reported numerous problems within these facilities. The food provided is not only insufficient but also deeply unsatisfactory. Much of it is wasted, with leftovers being carelessly discarded. Reportedly, even the washrooms are unhygienic, making them inaccessible to patients.Complaints from patients have been left unattended for days and are routinely ignored by hospital staff. Many patients are expressing regret over enrolling in the ESI scheme, despite its promise of lower-cost treatment.Patients at the hospital have raised concerns about the lack of proper medical care, unhygienic room conditions, and denial of treatment. “We come here for treatment, yet we find ourselves unable to endure even a single day due to the deplorable state of the washrooms and wards,” said several patients.According to an elderly couple, “Our ESI dispensary does not attend to our treatment properly, and instead asks us to directly visit the hospital for even minor issues. We travel a long way to reach the ESI Hospital in Nacharam, but we are still not provided with proper treatment.”“It’s been a week since my son was admitted to the hospital. The food they provide is insufficient and barely edible. The rice is undercooked, the curry is tasteless, and when we ask for more, they refuse. I’m not even allowed to bring homemade food,” said the mother of a 12-year-old boy.Another patient, an eight-year-old girl, said, “I cried really loudly when the nurse gave me an injection roughly. I asked her to be gentle, but she refused and yelled at me.”
