Normal Life Returns as Mori-5 Blowout Eases

Kakinada: The blowout at the Mori-5 well near Irusumanda village in Malkipuram mandal of Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district has been contained to a large extent, with normal life resuming in the surrounding villages on Thursday.Officials of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) and rescue teams, led by Rajamahendravaram Asset Manager Santanu Das and Executive Director Vikram Saxena, were able to clear debris up to the blowout point as the intensity of the flames and heat subsided. According to officials, the height of the flames has reduced to about 10 metres. A temporary road is being laid through nearby fields to transport equipment and accessories required to cap the well. Officials said the situation is expected to be fully brought under control in the coming days. Meanwhile, power supply to the affected villages has been restored and schools have reopened.
