Mortal Remains Of CISF Jawan Manoj Biswal Reach Native Village In Odisha

The mortal remains of CISF jawan Manoj Biswal, who died in a cloudburst-triggered landslide in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on August 14, reached his native village Manikamara in Odisha’s Dhenkanal on Sunday evening. A wave of grief swept through the village as thousands turned up to pay their last respects. The coffin, draped in the Tricolour, was first received at Bhubaneswar airport with full state honours before being taken by road to his ancestral home in Parjang block. Emotional scenes marked the farewell as family members, neighbours and locals lined up to catch a final glimpse of the 32-year-old jawan. He was later cremated at the village crematorium with full honours. Biswal was deployed in Kishtwar’s Chashoti area when a sudden cloudburst triggered flash floods and massive landslides, claiming more than 40 lives and injuring over 100 people. The calamity destroyed camps and blocked access routes, trapping many, including the CISF jawan. Cloudbursts, marked by intense downpours within minutes, have repeatedly caused devastation in hilly terrains like Jammu and Kashmir, with Kishtwar among the worst affected in recent years. The untimely death of Biswal has plunged his village into mourning, with people from across the region gathering to bid a tearful farewell to the braveheart.
