Warangal: Continuous heavy rains in Mulugu district over the past two days prompted panchayat raj minister Seethakka to urge residents, especially those in low lying areas, to stay alert and take precautions. On Wednesday, she inspected floodwaters at Jalagancha Gundla Vagu, between Pasra and Tadvai mandals, and directed officials to keep the public informed about rainfall updates. She also warned farmers of electrocution risks from overflowing streams and canals.Heavy rains swept away a temporary road near the bridge on the Mulugu-Bhadradri Kothagudem border disrupting public transport. Motorists were urged to avoid flooded routes and unnecessary travel. District collector T.S. Divakar evaluated damage to the bridge at Yakkanagudem Ralla Vagu in Venkatapuram mandal. The minister advised fishermen to suspend all fishing activities due to the heightened danger and instructed the district collector, the superintendent of police, and other senior officials to coordinate relief efforts on the ground. Officials have been tasked with identifying unsafe houses and relocating residents to safer locations. Seethakka further announced that the Mulugu collectorate has established a toll free helpline (1800 425 7109) for those needing assistance. A boat rescue team has been stationed at Eturnagaram, and officials were directed to ensure pregnant women can reach hospitals safely. Village secretaries will distribute bleaching powder and mosquito repellent to prevent waterborne diseases. Superintendent of Police Shabarish warned residents living along the Godavari’s banks not to cross bridges, culverts, or roads with strong currents, and cautioned against occupying unstable houses, handling wet electrical equipment, or fishing in flood affected areas. The district police and the District Disaster Response Force (DDRF) have been mobilised to respond to emergencies; residents are advised to dial 100 if they need help. In Malluru village, Mangapet mandal, floodwaters released from the Attacheruvu reservoir sluice entered about 20 homes. Following villagers’ alerts, officials curtailed the sluice flow and cleared canals to redirect water away from residences. Under tahsildar Thota Ravinder’s supervision, affected families have been relocated to a rehabilitation centre at the Zilla Parishad High School in Malluru, where food and shelter are being provided.
