Hyderabad: Metro Rail authorities on Thursday began installing milestones along the Old City route and announced that tenders for civil construction works would be invited next month. The installation of milestones has started on the 7.5-km stretch from MGBS to Chandrayangutta, with each milestone placed at intervals of 100 metres. As part of the preparatory works, Metro Rail authorities have urged other departments, including HMDA, Water Works, and the Electricity Department, to relocate utilities obstructing the Metro alignment, particularly underground, to facilitate pillar erection. Officials said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s keen interest in the project has accelerated developments. The authorities also clarified that fewer properties would be affected than initially estimated. Against the earlier estimate of 1,100 properties requiring acquisition, the number has come down, reducing the projected compensation amount from ₹1,100 crore. So far, over ₹380 crore has been disbursed to affected property owners. The total cost of the Old City metro project is estimated at ₹2,700 crore. Meanwhile, Metro Rail officials, along with field staff from various departments, are working round the clock to identify and safeguard key utilities, ensuring seamless coordination for timely execution of the project.
