Madhya Pradesh School Stirs Controversy over Use of Urdu, Islamic Terms in Alphabet Learning Chart

Bhopal: A private school in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district has landed in a controversy for using Urdu and Islamic terms in the alphabet learning chart prepared for nursery students.A student’s kin while going through the chart stumbled upon the contents which read, ‘M for Masjid’, ‘N for Namaz’, ‘K for Kaaba’….and informed the family members about it, according to the police. Some parents along with the local Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists gathered at the school and staged protests against the use of Urdu and Islamic terms. School principal I.A. Qureshi said the materials were circulated among the students without verifying the contents. He said the parents have been asked to return the material. The Kotwali police in-charge Narendra Goyal said he rushed to the spot after receiving the information about the incident and took the situation under control by advising the protesters to take up the matter with the local district education officer (DEO) for necessary action. Following this, the protesters dispersed, police said.
