Visakhapatnam:Lower tropospheric south-westerly and westerly winds currently prevailing over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam could cause thunderstorms accompanied by lightning over north coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) and Yanam.As a result, according to an IMD Amaravati report on Thursday, strong winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected at isolated places across NCAP, south coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) and Rayalaseema from August 22 to August 26.As per irrigation officials, the current water level at Bhadrachalam is at 52 feet. At Dhavaleswaram, inflows and outflows have reached 11.19 lakh cusecs, prompting authorities to issue the first danger warning.Krishna River system is also experiencing heavy flood flows. Srisailam Dam is recording an inflow of 5.40 lakh cusecs, while Nagarjunasagar shows both inflow and outflow at 4.32 lakh cusecs.Pulichintala is receiving an inflow of 4.23 lakh cusecs and Prakasam Barrage is managing both inflows and outflows of 5.14 lakh cusecs.In Alluri Sitarama Raju district, the overflowing Godavari has submerged numerous roads and causeways. Sabari and Godavari rivers are both overflowing, with dark streams inundating areas in Chintur mandal.Vehicle movement has come to a complete standstill between villages in Chintur, Kunavaram, and VR Puram mandals, forcing local residents to rely on wooden boats for transportation.The situation has become particularly critical on major highways, with National Highway No. 30 experiencing floodwater overflow at Chatti, severely disrupting vehicular movement between Andhra Pradesh and the neighbouring states of Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
